Freedom is the exercise of the mental power to overturn false ruling assumptions, and to generate hypothesis which, when verified experimentally, are in fact additions to our stock of knowledge of universal physical principles. In this case, 'truth' and 'freedom' are two ways of expressing the idea.*1 Love inspires, illumines, designates, and leads the way. Right motives give pinions to thought, and strength and freedom to speech and action.*2 *1 - by Lyndon H.

Why the series was written
|
The series was started in the early 1980s. It actually has two roots that are located in this time frame. One of these was the beginning of a trend of the political utilization of religion for strategic purposes, typified by the Arc of Crisis policy of that time. This type of goal always involves the perversion of religion to create irrational responses. We see a lot of that today to the point that civilization becomes threatened thereby. The foundation for the perversion is the empiricist notion that there is no such thing as truth. The counterforce for this trend can be found in the scientific development of the Christian tradition that was put on the map in the latter half of the 1800s by America's renowned religious leader, Mary Baker Eddy, who stipulated that truth is not only knowable, even in the spiritual domain, but can be proven in the practical healing of disease by spiritual means. But this is not all. What makes her work unique and valuable to the whole sphere of religion, is the scientific methodology that she developed and utilized, that makes it possible for one not just to believe, but to discover the underlying principles of the universe for oneself, and so to come to know the truth in a demonstrable fashion. The discovery of this unique aspect of her work began in the 1980s. This is what the research book series is about. Its overall focus is to probe in a universal sense what is involved in actually knowing the truth. |
How the series is arranged
| The
series is organized according to the principle established by Aligheri
Dante in the 12th Century who is said to have contributed greatly to
cultural foundation for the Golden Renaissance that unfolded several
centuries later. Dante is credited with two major elements in the
development of the processes for knowing the truth. One was his pioneering
linguistic development work, which is an essential foundation for the
perception of higher principles and ideas. His other contribution lies in
the field of moral and scientific development, typified by his poetic trilogy
The Divine Comedy. Both elements are incorporated in the arrangement of
the research books.
The first four volumes are designed to set the stage for thinking in terms of moral and spiritual issues to create a kind of 'language' that is useful to shift this kind of thinking into the spiritual domain. The first four volumes are therefore of general interest. The fifth volume, the central volume, is focused on May Baker Eddy's scientific method for discovering and knowing the truth. The rest of the series builds on that. The numbering of the volumes (1-6) is related to the three elements of Dante's trilogy, Hell, Purgatory, and Paradise, which relate to progressively higher levels of mental development from depravity all the way to the recognition of universal principles. As related to Dante's trilogy, the research series addresses this progression twice. It is addressed once as seen by the 'pilgrim' in the trilogy (Vol. 1-3), and once more as seen from the standpoint of the guide (Vol. 4-6). |
